Plenty of fun will be had at the famed “Bear Trap” this week at PGA National, host of the Honda Classic. No, not by the players, but by us, the viewers, who live for the carnage that treacherous stretch of holes always provides.
Scott, who won this event in 2016, was finding that out the hard way Thursday morning. He was able to split the fairway with his tee shot, but his 171-yard approach found the water just in front of the green. Fortunately for Scott, though, it was playable, his ball sitting on some mud just on the edge of the water. Naturally, he went shoes off, socks off, pants rolled up, full Bill Haas, to save what could be the par of the year:
Every stroke counts, kids, this week especially. At PGA National, where the winning score usually never gets higher than 10 under, pars are like gold, which is why Scott had no problem getting a little messy to grind one out on his second hole of the week.
The 11-foot save served as a bit of momentum for the Aussie. He parred the next six holes, including all three Bear Trap holes, then made an eagle at the par-5 18th.
