2021 WGC-Dell Match tee times, TV coverage, viewer’s guide

The PGA Tour heads to Texas this week for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. This marks the fifth season the event will be held at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas, but the first since 2019 after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 edition to be canceled.

All but five of the top 64 players in the world are competing this week. For the sixth year the event follows a pool-play format. The overall field is broken into 16 groups of four, and everyone plays each other once in each group, with one man advancing to single elimination. A won match is a full point and a halved match is a half of a point. The player with the most points at the end of all three matches moves on to the round of 16, and any ties are decided in a sudden-death playoff.

The World Cup-style format has yielded some exciting results, with Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson and Kevin Kisner claiming wins in the last five playings of the event. All five former winners are in the field this year.

A total of 22 golfers will be making their Match Play debuts this year including Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, Matthew Wolff, Sungjae Im and Will Zalatoris.

The winner will receive 550 FedEx Cup points and a $1.8 million share of the $10.5 million purse.
