It’s officially Masters Week, which means that everyone—your mom, your dad, your little cousin, Nancy in accounting, etc.—is going to have a “dark horse” pick to win at Augusta National. By the time Wednesday evening rolls around, there will be no dark horses left.
One guy who has slipped through the cracks so far, though, is Adam Scott, who captured his lone major at this tournament in 2013. Scott, who has played sparingly leading up to the Masters throughout his career, has actually had a full schedule in 2021, which he attributes to the string of marquee events between January, February and March that he could not miss.
The Aussie didn’t exactly look like his normally elite self during that stretch, which has caused his odds to dip to 55-1 at the William Hill Sportsbook. On this week’s episode of the “Be Right” podcast, where we were joined by Scott, we notified the 40-year-old of his juicy number—and even he was enticed by it.
“I can understand why, I’ve really shown particular form,” said Scott, who has just one top 10 in 2021. “But I could make a case that it’s a good bet. I generally perform fairly solidly in majors, it could just be the week it clicks.”
If so, he could make a lot of his backers very happy come Sunday evening.
Before he gets rolling on Thursday, Scott is launching a podcast of his own, one that will take fans inside the ropes at the Masters this week. The podcast, which is being produced by JJ Redick’s ThreeFourTwo production company in collaboration with Cadence13, is called FAIRGAME, and it will be a five-episode miniseries with Scott and co-host Benjamin Clymer.
“Fairgame is something that myself and a couple of my golfing buddies dreamt up,” Scott said. “Certainly starting out with an interesting topic that all golfers love, the Masters. And a little behind the scenes or behind the curtain with what goes into getting ready to play the Masters. Hopefully take you right through a couple weeks of preparation and then through the tournament, and hopefully people will find that interesting and we’ll see where we go from there.”
Among another of other topics, Scott also talked about nearly taming TPC Sawgrass’ 17th hole at this year’s Players Championship, and the area of his game he’s been working on the hardest in the leadup to Augusta. In addition to Scott, we also had Matt Youmans join this week’s pod. Youmans is the host of “My Guys In The Desert” and VSiN’s senior editor. Have a listen to the full episode below, and good luck with all your Masters bets.
