You’d think a walk-off hole-in-one to win a match/playoff in an elite professional tournament would be high on the list of “very rare occurrences” in golf.
In March, Sergio Garcia pulled off the feat at the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship, making an ace in a playoff against Lee Westwood to advance out of the group stage of competition at Austin Country Club.
A little more than two months later, it’s happened again. During the second round of group play at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play outside Las Vegas, Bronte Law made a 1 on Shadow Creek’s par-3 17th hole. The shot sealed a 2-and-1 victory in Law’s match with Austin Ernst.
The victory lifted Law to a 1-0-1 record in group play, giving her a chance to advance to the knockout stage over the weekend if she were to beat Annie Park on Friday. Ernst, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 and was eliminated from being able to play on the weekend.
Unfortunately, Golf Channel hadn’t started broadcasting yet so there was no video of Law’s ace.
